Fictional Diaries – I forgot somehow

Milan Kundera said: “The heavier the burden, the closer our lives come to the earth, the more real and truthful they become”. When the truthfulness of life fade away, a man to be lighter than air and take leave of the earth and his earthly being. From the other end, the burden of life keeps pulling us back to the earth. These tensions dissociates our soul from the reality and the fiction world like a man drifting in the Dead Sea. A question comes to my mind, “Is realty ultimately leads us to the real and truthfulness or rather a collective speculation?”, and inspires me to create this series. My feelings associates to the scenery I see every night at the waterfront of Victoria Harbour: the strange faces overlapping with the shadow of the water, the gazes with a sense of distance and unpleasant, and are expressed and painted with engravings.

The creation uses single-printing instead of the traditional method of plural printmaking aiming to make each painting a unique existence. With the techniques of wipes, brushes and hand painting, it creates the uniqueness while capturing flash back of memory fragments of what I sees and hears in the waterfront of Victoria Habour, it retains the most truthful feeling and also to increase the randomness, fortuity and surprise. The scene imitates the way of storytelling of illustrations, creating a specious narrative atmosphere intertwined the images into an incomplete story in the ocean.
